Historical Society
The Society was founded in 1981 with the aim of encouraging an interest in Leigh history and in preserving its heritage. Since its formation, several members of the Society have written books on Leigh history; information, photographs, maps and artefacts have been presented to the Society and an archive has been created. Research has been undertaken into houses in the village and into families who have lived here and names that have long since disappeared from the village. The Society has an easily accessible website: www.leighhistorical.org.uk
The Society itself is very active with a current membership of about 100 and holds eight to nine talks a year and organises several outings a year, both local and further afield. The cost of membership is currently (2019) £12 per person. If you would like to join the Society or would like more information, contact Joyce Field on 01732 832143 or via email to joy.field@btinternet.com
